Kitchen Trends

The kitchen is the heart of a home. Are you shopping for new house or, is it’s time to update your current abode?

Meals us to be prepared and served in a room behind closed doors; the kitchen.  In this room you never saw the cook until the meal was complete or the dishes were washed.  There was another space in most homes named, the dining room.  The dining room was designated for holiday’s and special occasions…only.

Finally, the open floorplan was born using the kitchen as the focal point and offering a wide-open, friendly and casual touch.

The kitchen was always a social spot but now the decorating theme starts in the kitchen and continues throughout the house.

The open floorplan appears to be here to stay then again colors, textures and functional designs have improved.  Here are a few new trends to consider.

  • Grey is the new white according to HGTV. Yet, white is still the most common.
  • Gray, blacks and slate kitchen appliances.
  • Personalized cabinets.
  • Furniture-look pieces
  • Outdoor kitchens.
  • Fewer standard kitchen tables replaced with counters or tall gathering tables.
  • Televisions and docking stations.
  • Wine Refrigerators.
  • Pet built-ins.
  • Kitchen islands with open shelves.
  • Pull out shelving and Lazy Susan’s.
  • Surfaces of metal and stone either natural or man-made are still popular.
